Architrave, Door Stops & Skirting Boards:
As we buy pre-primed architrave, skirting boards and internal doors this is the process for painting:
- Fill any uneven areas with a Polyfila style filler – use a filler knife to ensure the area is smooth.
- Wait 24 hours for the filler to dry and then go round and lightly sand the whole area.
- Vacuum the surface and also along any areas it’s touching (e.g. floating floor or wall).
- Use a knotting solution to paint over all the visible knots – this is important as it reduces the risk of the knots coming through the paintwork.
- Use primer paint for the door stops. Use a brush to go around the door stops and this should leave you with a watery white finish – perfect for the satin paint to go on top of. Leave this to dry for about an hour and then you can start painting with chosen colour.
- We use a white satin paint. Depending on the finish desired, you can either use a foam roller or a bush.
- The first step is to cut in with a brush and then go back on yourself and paint the large surface area with either the brush or foam roller.
- Most satin paints are quick drying but I suggest to leave the first coat to dry for a couple of hours to ensure it isn’t tacky.
- Now you can do the second coat – cut in again with the brush and then paint the large surface area.
Internal Doors:
We also buy pre-primed internal doors, so this is the painting process we follow:
- Light sand the door.
- Vacuum around the door.
- Use a brush to paint the door with satin paint ensuring you paint with the grain. We don’t worry about the top of the door as no one can see up there anyway.
- Leave to dry for about two hours so the paint isn’t tacky,
- Put a second coat of satin on the door,
